Reference Room

Formerly the bathroom, this is now our reference library dedicated to the memory of another of our society’s founding members, Rodney Doolittle.  This is an on-going project focusing on area genealogies and the cataloging of the area’s history.

Switch on the light to see the illumination on the ceiling.  This lamp came from another house in Winchester.  The rolled map sitting on the top of the cases was a school map of the US, dated 1847.  It was found in the United Church of Winchester when they recently remodeled their fellowship hall.  Note the picture of Rev. C.I. Schoefield’s family next to the “New Scofield Study System” Bible (notes in the margins of page and use of red lettering).  The Schoefield’s were from the New York City area and summered in Ashuelot up on the mountain that now bears their name at their estate, now called Crestwood.  They were also friends with the founders of the Northfield Seminary.
