Edith Atkins Room

This room was decorated and furnished as a lady’s sitting room by Edith Atkins, one of the founders of the Winchester Historical Society.  That’s her picture as a young woman that hangs over the light switch.  Note the parquet floor in a different design from the one in the downstairs music/dining room.  Those are pictures of the Sheridans sitting on the fireplace (another one of their improvements to the house).  We don’t have many items that were owned by the Sheridans, but the silver on the top shelf in the closet (light switch to the left of the closet) came from one of their descendants.  The spinning wheel is a “walking” wheel.  Instead of sitting and working a foot pedal, you walked back and forth (pushing the wheel) as you held the thread.  Don’t miss the stereo-optical viewer.

The Atkins Room, as seen from the entryway.
